Thank you for your interest in John Madejski Academy – it is an exciting and fun place to work. We are an 11–19 Academy with a thriving Sixth Form, housed in a new state of the art Sixth Form Centre, serving the young people of Reading.

John Madejski Academy is not just another school - it is a new way of learning. As a member of staff, you will be part of a young, hard-working team who are passionate about developing our students' potential. You will be able to use your imagination to create new ways to ignite students’ desire to learn. We like thinking outside the box!

Our Sports Specialism values influence the whole curriculum - tolerance, co-operation, sportsmanship and responsibility are sought and expected throughout the Academy.  For young aspiring footballers our Elite programme offers close links with Reading Football Club, UEFA-qualified coaches and networks to the Premier League.  For those who prefer Basketball we offer the very best coaching and training through our links with Reading Rockets.

The Academy offers the Young Ambassador and Sky Sport Living for Sport programmes.  Outdoor education is driven by a senior member of staff, specifically employed to run Outward Bound, The Teenage Wilderness experiences, Duke of Edinburgh Awards, National Indoor Climbing Award and canoeing schemes, as well as taking our young people to Ufton Court and other outdoor experiences.

Our vision is to become an outstanding Academy. Our academic trends are improving and Ofsted have highlighted marked improvements in behaviour, attitudes to learning, reward systems, leadership and management, and links with the community.

We are looking for teaching and support staff who are motivated, enthusiastic and inspiring; those who have a ‘cup half full’ attitude and are solution focused; self-confident, motivated and ambitious; possess excellent interpersonal skills; can make tough decisions; have sound judgement, especially when working under pressure; have a life outside of school and, very importantly, have a fantastic sense of humour.

If you join us as a NQT then you will find our NQT programme is second to none, offering a team of experienced staff who will be working with you to ensure a successful completion of your first year as well as offering you in-house and outside training opportunities.

As part of our commitment to you and your wellbeing we currently offer the following support and endeavour to develop this further:

  • Subsidised restaurant.
  • Cycle to Work initiative in partnership with Mountain Trax.
  • Professional Development programme designed to support personal development
  • Childcare Vouchers
    • Reduced membership fee for Academy Sport leisure centre, right next door to the Academy (brand new gym, swimming pool and a wide variety of classes).

Here is what some of our current staff have to say about working at John Madejski Academy....

"We don’t just teach at JMA, we also grow. Working in the English Department has allowed me to see how much impact English has, not just in my own classroom, but how it integrates with all different subject areas. I am proud to be a teacher at JMA. I can honestly say I look forward to work every day." English Teacher

"Living in the community, I knew that John Madejski Academy would be an exciting environment to work in. Every day is different; supporting students brings new personal challenges and shows me just how amazing young people are. I have worked here for 6 years and I'm still in awe of our students in their pursuit of excellence." HLTA

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and staff, and expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
