The LRC is our superbly-equipped school library. It features around 12,000 books as well as newspapers, magazines and journals, networked computers with internet access and a wealth of multimedia resources. All students and staff benefit from automatic membership.
The books available include a huge range of non-fiction and fiction covering all aspects of the school curriculum. We also have fiction titles available for private enjoyment, with something for all tastes and abilities. The options include quick reads – shorter fiction ideal for dyslexic and reluctant readers – graphic novels and audio books on CD.
The library database, Eclipse, which shows what resources we have, where they are kept and which are out on loan, is available to access from any computer across the Academy.
The LRC is open 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday during term time, and is available for quiet reading and homework during break and lunch times and after school. We encourage students to use the facilities to study independently, but trained staff are always available to answer questions and provide any support they need.
All Year 7,8 and 9 students have a library lesson each week designed to help them develop their reading skills by using the “Accelerated Reader Reading Scheme”
From time to time we organize author visits, competitions and reading challenges to get students inspired.
