All our students have to make key decisions during their time at the Academy. These include deciding on their GCSE options, where to spend their week of work experience in Year 10 and what do to after turning 16. All these decisions could affect the direction of their future career path, so we do everything we can to help them make the right choices.
At each of these crucial stages we help students in a variety of ways, for example with guidance from tutors and evening events for parents and carers. Our Head of Work Related Learning, Alison Hall, is always available to offer impartial and confidential advice. We have also commissioned two specialist guidance practitioners from Adviza (formerly Connexions Thames Valley) to provide additional support for Year 11 and Sixth Form students.
Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) and Work Related Learning (WRL)
We are currently working on developing an inspirational CEIAG/WRL programme to help students learn about and from the world of work throughout their time at the school. We will deliver this through:
- Tutor time
- Special event days
- One-to-one interviews
- Web-based careers programs (Kudos and Careerscape)
- Workshops run in conjunction with employers
- Activities tailored to the needs of individual students
Our aim is to develop a diverse and high quality programme, working in partnership with corporate partners and other organisations, parents and carers and students themselves. To see some of the work related events that our students attend, please click on the links to the left.
