John Madejski Academy 66-44 Itchen College JMA opened their WEABL season with victory over Itchen College on Wednesday afternoon in Reading behind Carmen Segura Moreno’s 14 points. The home team started the stronger as JMA opened up the contest with a 9-2 run before being pegged back by their visitors as Itchen finished the period with a 7-2 run of their own to trail 11-9 after the first ten minutes 11 missed free throws was the story of the second quarter for Itchen College as a JMA 13-2 run midway through the period really opened the game up as the hosts outscored their opponents 29-14 and headed into the locker room with a 40-23 half time advantage. Itchen closed the gap to 12 points at the beginning of the fourth period but another 13-2 run meant the eventual victors ensured a 66-44 scoreline as JMA secured their opening win. Year 11 student/athlete Matt M was called up to the first U16 England National Team camp for 2017-2018 which took place on the Manchester National arena. Matt has been flourishing with JMA Elite Basketball Academy playing up with the U19 EABL team with some very noteworthy appearances. Leading the way for Matt is David O and Asher N, who have been called up to the first U18 England National Team camp for 2017-2018.
