Google trip - Mind the Gap Programme

On Thursday 11th January a group of Year 9 girls were given the opportunity to visit one of Google's offices in London for their 'Mind the Gap' programme. The aim of the day was to change the way girls perceive computer science, encourage them to develop an interest in the field and continue to study related subjects.

The day started with a quiz, followed by talks and a question and answer session from a number of women who work in the technology industry. The girls were then given a coding challenge; making a 'Shero' travel around a maze at the right speed and for the correct length of time. Once everyone had achieved their goal, the girls were treated to a tour of the office. It was a fun day and inspired some of the girls to think about which qualifications they will need to achieve a career in the technology industry.
