Tiger Cage Skill Day

On Friday 28th June, 45 of our Year 12 students were given the opportunity to attend a Business Enterprise event in our Sixth Form Centre. The day was run by Visionpath, a company that delivers UPSKILL! and other programmes that help young people develop new skills and connect with top employers.

Volunteers from Accountancy firm Price Waterhouse Cooper and Solicitors Osborne Clark were mentors to the students throughout the day, lending their expertise and knowledge.

At the start of the day students were spilt into teams of five or six and were given two mentors to support them. They were asked to consider some everyday problems that people face and think of solutions. The teams were asked to think creatively about their solutions and to devise a product that could be sold in the marketplace.

Each team was then challenged to think of a 90 second ‘pitch’ for their product, which needed to include some information about what the product is and why it is needed, who it would be marketed to, how much it would cost to make and how much it would sell for.

The teams worked very hard and used their creativity to come up with some fantastic ideas for products, some of which included;

  • Driving Simulator – to give young people driving skills and knowledge and save money on driving lessons.
  • Battery Fridge – A smart fridge which alerts you when your products are going to expire.
  • Doctor one – a drone to deliver prescriptions to help busy people access their medication.
  • Vibration – a device to help deaf people hear music.

The teams were then asked to pitch their ideas to the ‘Tigers’ Matt Keeble and Robin Wood Partner, Osborne Clark.

The Tigers were very impressed with all the pitches but the winning pitch was from team Vibration. The panel was very impressed with how the team pitched their idea and their well- developed business plan. All the students worked well, and delivered their pitches well. Well done to them all.
