Parent Governor Election

We are recruiting for two Parent Governors to sit on John Madejski Academy’s Local Governing Body and are inviting applications from anyone wishing to make a contribution to our rewarding educational community.

What we hope you can offer:

  • Time: approximately 6 hours a month
  • A listening ear and enquiring mind
  • The ability to work as part of a team which holds school leaders to account

What we hope you will get out of being a governor:

  • The knowledge that you are helping our students
  • The satisfaction of giving something back to the community
  • New skills which may be useful elsewhere

Governors are appointed to provide:

  • A strategic overview of the work of the Academy
  • They act as a critical friend to the Academy
  • Strong links between our Academy and the community we serve
  • A focus on the long term development of the Academy
  • Accountability to the community for the use of resources and the standards of teaching and learning within our Academy
  • Maintain strong and effective relationships with TWHF

Governors will be involved in activities such as:

  • Monitoring the progress of the school improvement plan
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of school policies
  • Reporting school progress to The White Horse Federation Multi-Academy Trust
  • Ensuring the school meets Statutory requirement

Can you commit to:

  • Attend meetings of the Governing Board (6 per year)
  • Work as a member of the Governing Board (not as an individual) in the best interests of the Academy
  • Show an interest in Academy activities
  • Become well informed about education in general and about our Academy in particular
  • Become familiar with the rules of school governance in an academy trust
  • Attend training courses where appropriate.
