Youth Sport Award visit

The 36 pupils that have recently completed the YSA Leadership Award were lucky enough to receive an inspirational visit and workshop run by Ian Rose, one of Great Britains most successful Paralympic Judoka (judo expert) and was not only a torchbearer at the London 2012 Paralympic Games but also performed at the opening ceremony. Over the course of his career he has won two Paralympic, five World Championship and nine European Championship medals. Throughout the afternoon pupils explored all four areas of the YSA Award (wellbeing, leadership, achievement and reflection) discussing qualities and skills they need to be the best young leader/ volunteer and how to continue developing these skills. Pupils also had the opportunity to test their leadership skills completing small tasks, leading themselves and one another. The session ended with a Dragons Den style task where pupils had to develop their own intra school (in school) competition and sell it to the rest of the group. This was of course testing to their confidence, planning ability and team work but without doubt was a huge success.
