Performance Boys Football

Our Elite boys' football programme is designed for young student-athletes aged between 16 and 19 who are committed to developing in both football and academic studies. It is perfect for those who still aspire to become a professional footballer. We provide each student with a package of education, training and mentoring tailored to their individual needs.

The JMA Elite Football environment is ideal for players such as:

  • Players with previous professional football club experience
  • Elite/Development Centre experience
  • Potential Late Developers
  • Talented grassroots players

The programme allows keen young footballers to continue their academic studies on a wide range of courses at Sixth Form level while continuing to develop their footballing potential under the guidance of our experienced A-License coaches.

Partner Club

Our partner club Reading FC is one of the most successful CAT 1 academies in the country and give us access to their top class facilities and staff support and guidance on various areas such as:

  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Nutrition
  • Recovery
  • Analysis

We work very much to their mantra “We aim to develop brilliant technical players who work tremendously hard” and expect these standards both on and off the pitch.

Students are privileged to be able to wear Reading FC tracksuits, training and playing kits whilst part of the academy and therefore are not only representing the school but also Reading FC at all times.

The Course

Football Training and Matches

Elite football students receive 8-10 hours of training each week based on both our brand new FIFA approved artificial pitch and Reading FC’s Academy training pitch based at the Madejski Stadium.

Our Elite Teams play in the National Football Youth League competing against other Premier League and Football League programmes whilst our Development Squad play in the Tactic regional leagues against other local programmes. Please see all competitions listed below which allow us to give all players plenty of match time.

  • NFYL Southern Division
  • Tactic Premier, Regional & Foundation League
  • NFYL League Cup
  • Tactic League Cup
  • Berks & Bucks County Cup
  • ESFA National Elite Trophy & Schools Cup
  • ESFA & Reading Schools Leagues
  • Walsh Cup

Players have access to state of the art Gym facilities on a daily basis in order to work on Strength & Conditioning, rehab and recovery as well as weekly Hydrotherapy recovery sessions in the pool.

All players will also have access to our experienced sports therapist at least once a week as well as having the opportunity to be monitored by Reading FC’s Sports Therapists alongside their academy players.

Alongside this regular games are organized against Pro Clubs at all levels to allow players to showcase themselves. Clubs we have played recently include:

  • Reading FC

  • Peterborough United

Boys looking for trophy haul The football performance squad have it all to play for still as they head into May with 3 trophies in their sights. The first team currently sit top of the National Football Youth League and in National Cup Final after a strong run of form seeing them win no less than 20 games on the bounce in the league and cup. They sit 13 points clear of Crystal Palace, who have 4 games in hand but know that if they win against their rivals they cannot be caught. It is also Crystal Palace who stand in their way in the cup final which is scheduled to be played at Premier League ground Selhurst Park on 23rd May. Dev Squad look to retain Walsh Cup Despite both the reserve side and the development squad finishing 2nd in their leagues, there is still another trophy to play for as the Dev Squad take on Forest School in the Walsh Cup Final in May. They will be looking to retain the title after winning last year’s final on penalties. Upcoming Fixtures: Friday 4th May – AFC Bournemouth v JMA Reading (NFYL) Wednesday 23rd May – Crystal Palace v JMA Reading (NFYL Cup Final) Selhurt Park Premier League - Contract U16 GK Cameron has been offered a 2 year scholarship at Premier League side AFC Bournemouth after a short trial. Cameron came to us through our partner club Eldon Celtic JMA U16’s and has played in a number of games for our U16 side this season also earning trials with League 2 side Swindon Town and League One side Oxford United. Director of Football, Michael Butcher said “We are so pleased for him. He is a great lad with a mature head on his shoulders. It was quite obvious from early on that he would not be with us next season as his work ethic and ability were clear to see.” Cam joins quite a successful list of goalkeepers to move on from the football performance programme which includes Jamie N who played in the Conference for Farnborough, Jack S and Manny A who are both pro at Oxford United.
