John Madejski Academy to Become Hartland High School in September 2025

John Madejski Academy is proud to announce a new and exciting chapter in the school’s history. Following a recent community-wide consultation and vote involving staff, parents, carers, governors and members of the wider community, the school will be changing its name to Hartland High School, effective from September 2025.

The renaming marks a significant and symbolic step forward in the journey of ongoing school improvement. The new name reflects a shared vision and ambition to build a brighter, bolder future for all students, staff, and the local community.

“We are delighted to unveil the new name for our school,” say Mr Jonathan Heap, Headteacher, and Mr Dean Ackland, Head of School. “Hartland High School represents a fresh start and a renewed commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and opportunity. This change is more than just a new name — it’s a statement of who we are and where we are going.”

The transition to Hartland High School will be carefully planned over the coming months, with the leadership team committed to ensuring continuity and clear communication every step of the way.

The school wishes to thank all those who participated in the consultation process and continues to value the dedication and support of the entire school community.
