Hartland High School

Send information

Hartland High School is fully committed to supporting all our students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). We recognise that these needs may relate to learning, emotional, social, medical, or physical difficulties, and our aim is always to ensure that every student is fully included in school life, able to access learning, and make good progress. A key part of our approach is working closely with students and their families, listening to their aspirations, and involving them in shaping the most appropriate provision.

Wherever possible, students’ needs are met within the mainstream classroom. Staff across all subjects work with the SEND team to ensure lessons are accessible, with carefully differentiated and appropriate strategies in place. Teachers are given guidance, resources, and training to support individual students, while more tailored support and teaching is provided by the SENCO and teaching assistants when required. Parents who have concerns about their child’s progress or provision are encouraged to contact our SENCO, Emily Collins, at ecollins@hartlandhigh.co.uk, or for general SEND enquiries, our SEND administrator, Cheri Mills, at cmills@hartlandhigh.co.uk.

We also work closely with external agencies to make sure students’ needs are met as effectively as possible. Hartland High School liaises with the Reading Borough SEND team and SEN Officers, following all required protocols and drawing on additional expertise where needed. To ensure provision is planned and delivered appropriately, we use a provision mapping process to identify suitable interventions, which are always discussed with parents and carers before implementation. As an inclusive school, we welcome students with a wide range of needs and disabilities and are committed to ensuring they receive the right support to thrive.

In addition to support within school, we have access to a wide network of specialist services, including Educational Psychology, SENSS (Special Educational Needs Support Services), Child and Adult Mental Health Services (CAMHS), IASS (Information, Advice and Support Service for SEND), the Sensory Consortium, Parenting Special Children, the Berkshire Autistic Society, and the RISE service. Further information about services and support available in the local area can be found through the Reading Directory of Support for Young People with SEND, as part of Reading Borough Council’s Local Offer.
