John Madejski Academy 84-78 Itchen College
JMA opened their EABL season with a hard fought victory over Itchen College on Wednesday afternoon in Reading behind Adrian Nosa Castillo’s 21 points.
The second quarter was a game of runs as JMA opened up with a 6-0 advantage to tie the game at 21 after three minutes before a 7-2 run by the away team restored their advantage at 23-28. Both teams then went on 6-0 runs before the half time buzzer sounded with Itchen ahead by four points, leading 33-37 at the half time interval.
The third quarter was the highest scoring stanza of the game with both teams finding their rhythm on offence with 53 points shared between the two as JMA closed the gap and finished the quarter behind by only one point, 61-62.
JMA opened up the final ten minutes in buoyant fashion as an 11-4 run gave the hosts their biggest lead of the game, 72-66 to the good with five minutes to go in the contest. Itchen did then close the gap to just a single point again but big three’s from David C and Adrian C gave the home team an 81-74 advantage heading into the last 90 seconds of action. JMA held on for the win on the opening day of the EABL season with an 84-78 victory.
