'Safe Drive-Stay Alive' has become a firm fixture in the education calendar and is now so popular with schools and colleges throughout Thames Valley and Hampshire that it is becoming a firm fixture in curriculums.
On Tuesday 6th November, all Year 12 students travelled to the Hexagon Theatre in Reading to attend the 2018 Safe Drive event. Students joined many other schools and colleges from the surrounding area. When considering the statistics for young drivers the reasons for holding such an event become obvious. For instance, last year in Thames Valley and Hampshire an average of 4 young people per week were killed or seriously injured. Young drivers are much more likely to be involved in a crash on the roads, often due to inexperience and a lack of knowledge of the risks. Around 1 in 4 deaths on the road is aged 17-24.
Students took to Twitter and other social media platforms to engage with the organisers. This was a difficult afternoon in many ways with many heart rending stories. Even so with such an important message to get across the visit was incredibly important.
