Last week, we had the prestigious honour of hosting the GB women’s basketball team.
There was an exciting atmosphere in the school as journalists from Sky and the BBC arrived to cover the GB team’s training sessions taking place at JMA. Students and basketball players from our elite basketball programme were very excited to meet Britain’s top basketball talent, and they were not disappointed.
The team and coaches were very friendly and generously devoted a lot of time to meeting our students. It was eye-opening to watch the team train, seeing just how much hard work is involved in international-level basketball. As a bonus, the JMA Rockets girls’ team also got to try out the GB team kit, a real honor and a great photo opportunity!
Later this week, the GB team will start their final three Olympic qualifying games in Serbia. The squad will compete in a league alongside Spain, China, and South Korea, with the top three finishers booking a place at Tokyo 2020.
After the games were rescheduled and moved from China to Serbia, the team needed to find a new training location in the days before they set off for the tournament.
With our excellent facilities and basketball programme, as well as our proximity to Heathrow, in mind, representatives from the GB team got in touch and asked if they could carry out training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday last week. Naturally, we said yes!
Our elite basketball programme at JMA provides the very best standard of coaching and training for our talented basketball players. The chance for our students to meet the top British women’s basketball players was an amazing opportunity. Our students left school on Wednesday and Thursday full of inspiration.
Tipping off at 11:00 a.m. GMT, the GB team will face China in their opening game of the series. Everyone at JMA wishes the team the best of luck and hopes they show the world what British basketball is all about. We know you’ll do us proud!
