The Year 9 Boys travelled to Godalming to play Broadwater School in the first round of the ESFA National Cup.
The game started and JMA found themselves under pressure early, with Nathan T making some vital saves for the team to keep the score level. As the game progressed, JMA were able to get a foothold in the game and started to create chances through Liam C and Harley T. The first half ended 0-0 with JMA finishing the half much stronger than they had begun.
The second half started and the game remained close with Nathan T again making some vital saves to keep JMA in the game; but unfortunately there was nothing he could do to deny Broadwater scoring and entering the final 10 minutes with a 1-0 lead. A huge opportunity for JMA to equalise came almost instantly but we were unable to convert the chance. As the game drew to a close, a long ball forward from Peter P was latched onto by Harley T and his cross into the box was met by Liam C to equalise with barely any time left in the game.
The full time whistle sounded and extra-time was due to be played. A further 30 mins were played and no score was registered so the game went to penalties. After missing their first penalty, Harley T scored to give JMA the lead, however this was shorted lived as JMA missed their next penalty after Broadwater had scored their second. Both team converted on their next five penalties, with Liam C, Alfie W, Connor W, Devonn G and Peter P all scoring before Broadwater missed allowing Neveah J the chance to win the game and send JMA through to the second round. Neveah stepped up and calmly placed the ball into the top corner to send JMA through!
A fantastic display by all of the boys involved and a well- deserved win and place in the next round. We are looking forward to hosting Claremont School in the coming weeks.
